Kamagasaki green postcard project, a 5 card set
大阪市西成区、通称・釜ヶ崎。この街にながれつき生ききる釜のおっちゃんたちのことばと絵。５つのことばと、不思議な生き物の絵。すっとぼけていたり、字を間違えたり、正直なことばに、ハッとする。風にのせてとどけたい。
Nishinari ward, Osaka city – commonly called Kamagasaki. These words and drawings were made by older men who ended up coming to the town and living here. Five writings and drawings of mysterious creatures. You become sober with these honest words, misspellings included, which feign ignorance. We want to deliver them to you as on a passing breeze…

2007年 三角公園にて

かつて、三角公園夏祭りのお盆・越冬の年末年始には、全国の飯場や工事現場が閉じるため、労働者が釜ヶ崎に帰ってきた。2007年の夏祭りの櫓のそばの書のコーナーで静かにこの言葉を書いたおっちゃんは、「三重県の飯場から帰ってきた」と言った。
Once, laborers used to return to Kamagasaki for the festival in mid-August, and at the end of the year, because in those seasons bunkhouses and construction sites all over the country were usually closed. In the calligraphy section, by the wooden stage at the Kamagasaki summer festival in 2007, an older man who wrote these words quietly said “I came back from a bunkhouse in Mie prefecture.”

Wait for confidence
At Kaman! Media Center, 2012
ココルームの向かいに開いたカマン！メディアセンターで書き初め大会を開いた。若い女性が「自信を持つ」と書いた。そのあと岡山秀孝さんが「自信を」と書いた、そのあと、「待つ」と書いて、その場にいるみんなが唸った。自信とは待つものだったのか。
We had a New Year’s calligraphy event at Kaman! Media Center, which we opened opposite Cocoroom. A young woman there wrote “Have confidence”. After that, Okayama Hidetaka-san also wrote “Confidence”, and then he wrote “Wait for”. All of the people present were impressed. Confidence is a thing you wait for.

釜ヶ崎に暮らす人はいくつかの名前を持つ人が多い。偽名をつかいわけている。坂下さんも帽子を変えるように、名前を変える。帽子にはカエル、とんぼなどのバッヂがついている日がある。
A lot of people who are living in Kamagasaki have several names. They use false names shrewdly. Sakashita-san changes his name as simply as he changes his hat. There are days he wears various tin badges affixed to his hat. One day, a frog. Another day, a dragonfly.

2016年 三徳寮にて
I want to be a person who has a red heart.
(The writer used the kanji for “red” instead of the kanji for “bright”, both have the same sound)
At Santoku Apartment, 2016
釜ヶ崎芸術大学では、詩や天文学、合唱、狂言など、年間100ほどのさまざまな講座がある。三徳寮で定期的に開催する講座「ことばときぼう」。三徳寮に暮らす静かなおじさんが感想用紙に書いたひとこと。
In Kamagasaki University of Arts there are about 100 kinds of lectures throughout the year with topics including poetry, astronomy, chorus singing and the traditional theater form “kyogen“. “Words and Hope” is a lecture which takes place regularly at Santoku Apartment. These are the words which a quiet older resident of Santoku Apartment wrote.

ビールのアルミ缶を使い、独学でからくり人形をつくる通称・博士。人生とアルコールがのっぴきならない関係らしい。よく喋る。名（迷）言が多い。
An older man who taught himself how to make string puppets with leftover aluminum beer cans is known by many as “Doctor”. His life and alcohol cannot be separated. He talks a lot and gives many wise (or eccentric) remarks.
